Examination of Joan Harry

Joan the wife of Anthony Harry of Rye butcher sayeth that about a year past, the time certain she remembreth not, her sister Thomas Harry his wife, came unto her house, and made her acquainted that Mistress Taylor did speak unto her to help her unto a piece of powder beef to make her daughter, Master Taylor’s child, who then …. sick, a messe of porridge, for that she longed for some.

--- this examinate answered her

Will she make a sick child porridge of powder beef? And her sister said that

Mistress Taylor would fain have a piece for that purpose, and desired this examinate that she would let her have a piece for money. And this examinate said

She had none ?pette but a piece of neck beef, and if that would serve her turn, she would give her a piece.

And so she went to her powdering tub, and cut her a piece of the best that was there. And delivered the same unto her said sister to carry unto Mistress Taylor, which afterwards, she heard her sister say, she gave unto Mistress Taylor.

And she further sayeth that in very short time after, her rg right hand with which she cut the beef fell lame, and as yet she hath no use of her hand. But by what means her hand came to be so, she cannot tell.
