The second examination of Anne Taylor the wife of George Taylor of Rye gentleman, taken before Master Thomas Higgons, mayor of the town of Rye and the jurats his brethren, viz. Master Richard Portriffe, Master John Styner, Master Richard Cockram, Master Richard Fowtrell, Master Alexander Fowkes and Master William Tharpe, the third day of August anno regni domini nostri Jacobi dei gratia Regis nunc anglie etc. sexto; as followeth.
1 To the first she sayeth she cannot say anything to that interrogatory.
2 To the second she sayeth she sayeth that she never said nor speak any such words as is contained in that interrogatory.
3 To the third she sayeth that she never promised Swapper’s wife a hundred pounds nor knoweth not of any such matter as is mentioned in that interrogatory.
4 To the fourth she sayeth she knoweth not of such matter or things as is mentioned in that interrogatory.
5 To the fifth she sayeth she did never will Swapper’s wife to proceed as she had begun, nor use any such speeches unto her as is contained in that interrogatory.
6 To the sixth she sayeth she was never told any such matter by Swapper’s wife as is contained in that interrogatory, neither doth she know of anything mentioned in the said interrogatory.
7 To the viith she sayeth she hath not nor ever had any part of any money which was at Weeks Green, nor knoweth not of anything mentioned in that interrogatory.
8 To the viiith she sayeth she did not say unto Swapper’s wife any such matter as is mentioned in that interrogatory, neither doth she know of any such matter as is contained in that interrogatory.
9 To the ixth she sayeth the chambers were then her mother’s, and she had the letting of them out, and the houses and all, and that this examinate had nothing to do …. le—ing of them out, neither doth she know of any such matter as is contained in that interrogatory.
10 To the xth she sayeth that Swapper’s wife did never demand of her the way to Weeks Green, neither doth she know of any thing mentioned in that interrogatory.
11 To the xith she sayeth she knoweth not of any such matters or things mentioned in that interrogatory, neither did she use any such speeches to Swapper’s wife as is contained in the said interrogatory.
12 To the xiith she sayeth she never heard any spirits talking together neither doth she know of anything contained in that interrogatory.
