2 To the second he sayeth that the said Swapper’s wife did tell unto this examinate and his wife that
Certain spirits that had appeared unto her had revealed unto her that certain treasure and plate was hid in the garden of this examinate, and that the said treasure and plate should not be delivered until such time as this examinate’s son, which he had by his wife that now is, should attain unto the age of six years. And that the spirits did wish that the time were expired that they might be delivered of the same.
And this examinate demanding of her whether she might not be deceived, and that it might be some fancy that troubled her, and that there was no such treasure or plate hid; she answered him again, that
She had seen both the treasure and plate, and that she did help the spirits to make clean the treasure and cups. And the quantity of the treasure, being in gold and silver, was as much as could be contained in a great cauldron and a great brass pot. And that there was some ten dozen of great silver spoons.
And he further sayeth that the said Swapper’s wife did tell this examinate and his wife concerning her going unto Weeks Green with her spirit Richard, and what accidents happened unto her there, in such (except such matters as she confessed concerning treasure hidden at Weeks Green), in such sort as the said Swapper’s wife before hath in her examination confessed.
3 To the third he can say nothing.
4 To the fourth he sayeth that neither he this examinate or his wife, to his knowledge, did ever hire the said Pywall or Williams to dig for treasure in his ground or garden. But he this examinate hath hired both said Pywall and Williams to dig to make him a garden and orchard. But he this examinate sayeth that the said Pywall did tell this examinate, at the time that he did dig his garden, that
He was greatly troubled in the night with treasure that should be hid in his garden near unto the summer house, and did request this examinate for the satisfying of his mind that he might dig in his garden to search for the same, unto whose request he granted.
