First interrogatory for Anne Taylor / sheet 1

Interrogatories or articles to be ministered to Mistress Taylor and others to be examined for, about and concerning Susan Swapper the wife of Roger Swapper

1 Imprimis whether Susan Swapper the wife of Roger Swapper of Rye, about middle Lent last past or at any time sithence, did make you acquainted that certain spirits appeared unto her by night in the chamber where as she did lie, in sundry shapes, yea or no? If yea, then in what kind ….. or likeness did she tell you that they or any of …?

2 Item after she had so made you acquainted that ?therew … and that she had seen such spirits, what answer did you make unto the said Susan Swapper;  and what was your opinion or counsel unto her concerning the said spirits?

3 Item whether the said Susan Swapper after she had first acquainted you with the apparition of the said spirits unto her, about two days after, certify you again that she was again in the night time again two nights together troubled with the apparition of the said spirits? And whether did you bid or advise the said Susan, that if the said spirits should any more appear unto her, that she should speak to them? And in what sort did you will her to speak to them?

4 Item what number of spirits did she tell you did appear unto her, and by what names were they called?

5 Item did not the said Susan tell you (the next time after you persuaded her to ask them what they would have with her if they appeared again unto you) that a woman in a green petticoat did appear unto her and call her by her name to go with her? And that with the fear ... ?thereat of she awaked her husband, yea or no? … What did she tell you more concerning that vision or any other vision that she saw ther that night? Declare the truth herein.

6 Item did not you go afterward  at any time go  with the said Susan to dig dig in your garden, yea or no? If yea, to what intent and purpose did you so dig, and in what places did you or any of you dig? And was there any treasure or any thing found where as you or any of you did dig, and did you or any of you thrust any spit into the ground whereas you or any of you did dig? And did you hear any sound of any
