the said Mistress Taylor, being together in the parlour a spinning and a carding, of a sudden they did hear a great stamping in the loft. And then Mistress Taylor said to this examinate,
“Hark, now they be come, go see what they lack.” But this examinate answered her,
“You have been a great while above alone there yourself, and therefore you may go up to them again.” Then she
Prayed this examinate to go up to them, and in the mean time she would have this examinate’s children to bed.
Whereupon at her request, this examinate went up into the chamber where the spirits did use, and there she saw a light like a candle in the midst of the chamber, which did suddenly depart. And then this examinate ?seeing nothing there, did think to go up into the garret, and when she was got up to the garret door, she was taken in such sort, as she could not wag hand nor foot, but leaned to the wall behind the garret door, and her speech was taken from her.
And in such sort she remained, as she thinketh, the space of one hour, until such time as her husband did come and find her, and took her by the arm. And then she felt her limbs, but could not speak till she came down. And then her husband asked
How chance she did not open the door when he knocked? and she answered him
"I did not hear you, neither could I move from that place till you took me by the arm."
